José Pedro Balmaceda Pascal (known in Spanish as [xo?se ?peð?o ?alma?seða pas?kal]; born on April 2, 1975) is actor with dual Chilean-American citizenship. Following nearly two decades of taking small roles on stage and television, Pascal rose to fame as Oberyn Martell in the season four of the HBO hit fantasy series *Game of Thrones* (released in 2014). He gained further prominence with his role as Javier Peña in the Netflix crime series Narcos (2015–2017). He went on to appear in the movies *The Great Wall* (2016), *Kingsman: The Golden Circle* (released in 2017), *The Equalizer 2* (in 2018), and *Triple Frontier* (2019).
Pascal's leading roles as the character Din Djarin in the Disney+ sci-fi show *The Mandalorian* (beginning in 2019 and still ongoing) and Joel in the HBO post-apocalyptic drama *The Last of Us* (from 2023 onward) led to his global fame, solidifying his reputation for portraying characters who act as father figures. For the latter role, he received numerous accolades, including a Screen Actors Guild Award and a nomination for a Golden Globe Award. He continued playing fatherly roles in the movies such as *We Can Be Heroes* (2020), *Strange Way of Life* (in 2023), and as Fink the fox in *The Wild Robot* (2024). Pascal has also starred in big-budget films such as *Wonder Woman 1984* (released in 2020) and *Gladiator II* (set to release in 2024).
Having started in theater in 1999, he made his Broadway debut as Edmund in a 2019 Broadway rendition of *King Lear*. Pascal was named one of the world’s 100 most influential people in 2023.
